Chaz Recommends - Eateries in Lafayette

Lafayette is known for its great food. From classic Creole and Cajun fare to international cuisine, there's something for everyone here. Here are my personal favorite places to eat in Lafayette.

If you're looking for a great meal in Lafayette, LA, Chaz recommends these spots. Each one offers something unique and delicious that is sure to satisfy any craving. They're all locally owned establishments, so you can't go wrong with any of them!

Breakfast for the early birds

T-Coon’s

Start your day with a zydeco breakfast from T-Coon’s. Locally owned and operated by David Billeaud. A sixth-generation Louisianian from Broussard, Billeaud is just about as Cajun as it gets!

Located within a strip mall, at first glance you may not think much of the unassuming exterior. The menu is full of Louisiana favorites, everything made from scratch, the old-fashioned way.

Whether you prefer to start your day on the sweet or savory side, T-Coon's has a wide range of breakfast options to jumpstart your day. Get your fill of hearty omelets, buttermilk pancakes, sausage and gravy, and more.

Hub City Diner

The name of the establishment is appropriate, as it serves all-American fare in the heart of town. You'll see regulars coming in everyday being greeted by restaurant employees and even the owner. The place has the nostalgic feel of a fifties diner and is a hit with the family.

Hub City Diner in Oil Center serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the week and some classic dishes including Catfish Louisiana. The restaurant draws in the early-risen breakfast crowd for its large selection of omelets, pancakes, egg combinations, and beignets on weekends. On weekdays, Oil Center employees head to Hub City for its healthy dishes, salads, sandwiches, and burgers.

Hot spots for Lunchtime

Cafe Lola

When Chaz is looking for a lunch spot - he looks for something quick, healthy and affordable. Cafe Lola hits all three of these with their daily fresh soups, wraps, salads, sandwiches and more. There is a daily fruit that is freshly cut and there’s always fresh bread.

“This is great place for lunch. We have worked in the area for years now, and this has always been a go-to place. My favorite is the broccoli-cheese soup on Thursdays, but there has not been any dish that I haven't liked. My go to lunch items are the fruit and nut salad add chicken, and a chicken wrap add onions and peppers. Sasha loves the grilled shrimp wrap. Even for peak time (at around 12pm), service is exceptional and “quick”!”

Blanchard's BBQ

At Blanchard’s BBQ, they pair old-school barbeque with contemporary cuisine. Think Texas-style brisket with hand-cut poutine fries with a cold craft beer. Three generations of Blanchards have loved nothing more than standing around a smoky pit and carving off a little something for someone special.

Blanchard’s BBQ does it right. Get extra napkins for this one folks because the meals are juicy and will be the most flavorful mess you will come back for over and over again. I love to smoke meat at home and always try to find a good BBQ joint anywhere I go to experience succulent smokey meat goodness and these folks got it going on. Best BBQ in Lafayette for sure! Good service too!

“It’s hard to smoke Turkey the right way, but Blanchard’s nails it every time. I usually get a Turkey Salad. Blanchard’s runs out of Turkey around 12:00 so you have to get there early.” advises Chaz.

Close your day with a tasty Dinner

Antoni's Italian Café

Antoni's Italian Café is a Lafayette restaurant that has become quite popular with visitors to the area. Antoni's Italian Café is a local Italian restaurant that serves inexpensive Italian cuisine. At the bar, try one of the freshly prepared Italian coffees or cocktails, along with some fine wines. If you're in the mood for some appetizers, try out the white bean hummus

There are a ton of entree options, and I have never had a bad meal there. Check out the eight unique pizzas or a calzone if you're feeling hungry. Best of all, many pasta recipes are available, as is the option to construct your own pasta with past and choose from three sauces. Chaz’s go to order is to start with focaccia bread, then a side spinach salad, and finally a chicken parmesan entree.

Charley G's

Charley G's is a Lafayette restaurant that has provided delicious meals to satisfied customers for over 20 years. Charley G's offers some of the best steaks and seafood around, as well as locally sourced favorites including crawfish and boudin. If you're looking for something else, try the roasted garlic & brie for an appetizer, smoked duck & andouille gumbo for a second course, and a delicious steak or seasonal seafood entrée.

When you’re feeling like a warm evening out, consider checking out Charley G’s Seafood Grill. For an extra special, romantic experience, consider splurging on the Burgundy Wine Dinner. This 6-course dinner and wine pairing are only offered at certain times, so be sure to plan ahead if this is your desire.
